Purpose and Scope
This Applicant Privacy Statement (“Applicant Statement”) describes how Designtechnia, Inc. (“Digital Trends”), including our subsidiaries and affiliates, collect, use, and share personal information that you submit as an applicant for a position with Digital Trends or one of our subsidiaries or affiliates for employment, including internship opportunities. This Applicant Statement does not apply to information that we collect for any other purpose. Please see our Privacy Policy for more information. If you are hired, your applicant information will become a part of your employment record and subject to privacy policies applicable to employees. Background check or drug screening information (if required) are collected following an accepted offer of employment as a condition of employment and are not subject to this Applicant Statement. We do not sell applicant information to third parties.
The Types of Information We Collect and How We Collect Information

As further described below, we collect several types of information from and about you that broadly fall into the following categories:

  • Information that you provide to us,
  • Information that we receive from third parties, and
  • Information that we collect automatically from our website.
Information You Provide to Us: This includes information provided in an application, in your resume, or otherwise in connection with an application for employment like your contact information (name, address, telephone number, and email address), educational and employment background, qualifications, certifications, professional associations, training, references, compensation requests, driver’s license number, work visa or immigration status,  date of birth, gender or gender expression, nationality, race if you choose to provide it, veteran status if you choose to provide it, compensation requests, or competency or other assessments that we request. We may also collect feedback from you regarding the application process.
Information We Collect from Third Parties: This includes information that we receive from third-party referral sources, recruiting firms, service providers, recruiting platforms, research firms, or information from social networking platforms like LinkedIn (which includes information provided to LinkedIn in connection with your job search and candidacy, and information on your profile). This information includes any information that you provide to the third-party like your resume, contact information (name, address, telephone number, and email address), educational and employment background, references, qualifications, certifications, professional associations, training, work visa or immigration status, nationality, race if you choose to provide it, veteran status if you choose to provide it, compensation requests, or competency or other assessments. The third-party may automatically collect information about you when you interact with their websites, services, or products. For example, social media pages like LinkedIn automatically collect information about how you interact with our social media pages. Third parties may provide the information they automatically collect about you to us.
Information We Automatically Collect: When you interact with our website, including our careers page, or the third-party recruiting tools we use, we or our service providers automatically collect information about your use of such website or tools via cookies and other similar tracking technologies. We may collect information about your computer, phone, tablet, or other devices you use to access our website. Certain personal information may be considered sensitive personal information under applicable privacy law, including government-issued identification number, race or ethnic origin, political opinions or religious beliefs, trade union membership, physical or mental health or condition, genetic or biometric information, or sexual orientation, information about an individual’s criminal offenses or convictions, as well as any other information deemed sensitive under applicable data protection law.
We do not require that you provide sensitive information during the recruitment process unless permitted or required by local law (for example, for equal opportunity monitoring or internal policies related to diversity and anti-discrimination). Where required by applicable law, we will obtain your consent before collecting sensitive information. We may be required by U.S. law to request specific data on some of these topics (e.g., disability or veteran status) for jobs located in the U.S.
How We Use Applicant Information that We Collect

We use the applicant information that we collect to evaluate your candidacy for positions with Digital Trends and for recruitment and human resources management purposes like:

  • processing and evaluating applications,
  • scheduling interviews and managing the recruitment process,
  • assessing your qualifications, skills, or interests against available positions
  • assessing your eligibility to work,
  • verifying information in your application,
  • making hiring decisions,
  • responding to your questions or inquiries,
  • analyzing, managing, and improving our recruiting and hiring processes,
  • carrying out obligations or administering benefit plans or compensation plans,
  • informing you of future employment opportunities that may align with your qualifications,
  • carrying out administrative purposes, aggregate management reporting, internal training, or as generally required to conduct our business,

  • providing, supporting, or otherwise managing our career website or career portal.
We may also use your information carry out our obligations, enforce our rights, to comply with any legal obligation (including our obligation to respond to government requests or court orders), to protect the rights, privacy, or safety of third parties, or the integrity or security of our business, websites or recruitment tools.
How We Share Applicant Information

We may disclose applicant information to the following categories of recipients:

  • Our subsidiaries and affiliates,
  • Service providers to help us analyze and process applicant and employment information,
  • Advisors or legal services providers,
  • A potential buyer or investor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or other sale or transfer,
  • Any third-party with your consent,
  • Governmental authorities where legally required,
  • Any competent law enforcement body, regulatory body, government agency, court, or other third-party to (1) comply with any court order, a request from any competent law enforcement agency, or any other legal obligation; (2) enforce or apply contractual terms; or (3) to protect our or our service provider’s rights, property, or safety, or to comply with any other legal obligation.

We require our service providers to protect the information they receive with appropriate security measures and prohibit them from using the information for their purposes or outside what is necessary to provide the service.

If you are a resident of Switzerland, the United Kingdom, or the European Economic Area (“EEA”), our lawful basis for processing information is our legitimate interests (for example, assessing your application, or for managing and improving the applicant experience) or as necessary to enter into an employment relationship with you. We will process information where our legitimate interest is not overridden by your data protection interests or fundamental rights and freedoms. With respect to sensitive information, we process data where the processing is necessary to carry out our obligations, to exercise our rights, to carry out your vital interests (such as our furtherance of non-discrimination, pay equity, or disability accommodation), or for the establishment, exercise, or defense of a legal claim. If one of the previous legitimate interests is not available, we will only process sensitive information with your consent.
European Privacy Rights
If you are a resident of Switzerland, the United Kingdom, or the European Economic Area (“EEA”), you have the right to request access to, or a copy of, your information, to request that we correct inaccuracies in your information, to request that we erase your information, or to request we restrict our processing of your information. If our lawful basis for processing information is your consent, you also have the right to withdraw your consent to the processing of that information.

We may request specific information from you to confirm your identity. In some circumstances, we may charge a reasonable fee for access to your information.

Where we transfer your information to countries outside of the EEA, we will protect your information by implementing reasonably appropriate safeguards, including using standard contractual clauses or another lawful transfer mechanism approved by the European Commission.

International Transfers
We operate globally, which means that your information may be stored in any country we operate, any country our personnel or contractors are located, or in any country our service providers are located or have personnel.  By providing information for any of the purposes stated above, you acknowledge that your information will be transferred to and stored in the United States and may be transferred to other countries. Other countries may have data protection rules that are different from those of your country.
Security
Digital Trends takes reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction, taking into account the risks involved in the processing and the nature of the personal data. However, no application, Internet, or email transmission is ever fully secure or error-free, and we do not guarantee the security of any personal information.
Data Retention
We will retain your information for as long as required to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our contractual agreements, or as necessary for our legitimate interests, such as to consider you for other current and future employment opportunities.

If we move forward with your candidacy, we will retain the information that you provide during the application process as part of your employment record.
